Book Review: A Week of Werewolves, Faeries, and Fancy Dresses by Nicki Chapelway

Good afternoon, Arrowheads! Today I’ve got another book review for you guys, this time of a fantasy novel by my Goodreads friend, Nicki Chapelway. First things first, I find it absolutely amazing that Miss Chapelway published this novel at age fifteen! I would have never have guessed a fifteen-year-old penned this beautifully written novel. This book is proof that talent can shine through at any age! Now, for the actual review:

WOWFFDReview

When we first begin A Week of Werewolves, Faeries, and Fancy Dresses, we meet Chelsea Welling, a fifteen-year-old girl who is mysteriously being transported to an alternative world called Amar via portals that appear in her town randomly. After visiting Amar a few times, Chelsea debates if she should tell someone about her trips, when a barbecue among family friends ends up revealing that Chelsea is not alone in her trips to Amar; her twin brother Clint, as well as their friends Easton and Bobby have been traveling there too. The day of the barbecue, all four kids are summoned into Amar in order to finish a quest that the kids’ fathers began when they were teens, and this is where the adventure truly begins. The kids soon find themselves learning they all have unique, magical gifts, befriend animals along their journey, and encounter many fantasy creatures. Who can they trust on their journey, and who, if any, is destined to survive the quest?

I won’t spoil any of the specific events of the novel, so I’ll go over the things I liked and disliked about the novel:

What I Liked:

  • Chelsea and Easton: So much fangirling for these two! Gah ❤ I love how Easton’s emotions are difficult for Chelsea to read even though we can obviously see how perfect they are for each other! I hope Clint ends up winning his bet with Bobby! 😉
  • Clint and Bobby: #IShipIt
  • Clint’s Sarcasm: Clint is hilarious and definitely had me cracking up during the chapter where he met Prince Philip!
  • Perseus and Odysseus: I’m head-over-heels for the animal companions the group meets on their journey, especially Perseus the wolf! I hope they’re featured more in the sequel!
  • The World Building: Amar seems like an amazing (although very dangerous) world, and the author does an excellent job describing the world she’s created.
  • Easton’s Fangirl: Let’s just say someone becomes a fan of Easton along the journey and it. Is. Hilarious! XD

What I Disliked:

  • Pacing: Not that I actually disliked how the story was paced, but the beginning of the journey felt like it started off slowly to me, and it took a little longer for me to get into the novel. However, once the action began to pick up on the journey, I really began to enjoy the book.

Overall, I’m rating A Week of Werewolves, Faeries, and Fancy Dresses ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of five stars. Thank you to the author for providing me with a free eBook copy in exchange for an honest review. I’m looking forward to reading the sequel! 😊
